Meet the Interns: Rolando Blanco

Meet the Interns: Rolando Blanco
(Orlando Office)

1. Tell us a little about yourself...

I am a 21 year old Cuban-American born and raised in South Florida from the town of Miramar, FL. I currently am a Senior in the University of Central Florida double majoring in Political Science and Advertising/Public Relations. I minor in Legal Studies and Mass Communication. I am expected to graduate this Spring and am expecting to attend law school Fall 2015. I am a former executive member for my Theta Chi Fraternity at the University of Central Florida and currently the Director of Public Relations for the organization.

I come from a large family being composed of my mother, step-father, two brothers, and two sisters. I also am a Type I diabetic since the age of five. Being the second eldest of my siblings I always try to set the right example and try and provide when possible. I am a very friendly and personable individual to speak to and always willing to extend a helping hand.

2. Why are you involved with LGBT activism?

Although I am a straight male, I believe that equality is a serious and always evolving topic that should not be looked past or ignored. Two of my closest friends are a part of the homosexual community and to think that they would ever be denied an opportunity because of their sexual orientation or belief is not acceptable. I believe that Equality Florida and its members possess the vast knowledge, resources, and capability to continue to progress the political, social, and business world in a positive light and hopefully one day the topic of fighting for equality will only be relevant in history books.

3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?

I decided to intern with Equality Florida to be a part of something bigger than myself. While not being ignorant to the factor that having a position with Equality Florida on my resume will also help me with progressing with my academic and career goals, I believe that the education of social dilemmas is necessary to prevent any prolonged blockades that could occur in the future.

4. What are your plans after you graduate?

My primary career goal is to practice entertainment and sports-management law seeing as the field of entertainment has not once stopped booming. I believe that in this fast paced field that my organizational and communication skills will not only allow me to excel but at well innovate new aspects never looked into before. But I eventually would like to go into the complex world of American politics with the hopes of being at least a Congressman and possibly a U.S. Senator.
