U.S. House Republicans Pass A Nationwide Ban on Transgender Girls Participating In School Sports

Led by Florida Congressman Greg Steube, House Republicans have passed a nationwide ban on transgender girls participating in school sports. This cruel legislation lays bare their obsession with attacking the LGBTQ community, particularly transgender youth.

This isn’t about fairness or safety—it’s part of a calculated strategy by extremist political operatives like Terry Schilling of the American Principles Project, who openly admitted they chose to target transgender people as a new wedge issue after marriage equality became settled law. Schilling’s words are chilling: “We knew we needed to find an issue... we threw everything at the wall, and what stuck was that people did not know transgender people.”

By scapegoating trans kids, Republican leaders hope to sow fear and division, distracting from their failure to address real issues that impact American families—like affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and fair wages. Instead, they weaponize ignorance and exploit anxiety for political and financial gain.

This policy doesn’t just harm transgender youth—it endangers all women and girls. By inviting invasive questioning, harassment, and bullying for anyone who doesn’t conform to outdated gender stereotypes, this legislation threatens the very safety and fairness it claims to protect. These attacks are part of a broader effort to roll back the rights of women, LGBTQ individuals, and other marginalized communities.

The majority of Americans reject these bans and support decisions about school sports being made locally—not dictated by politicians pandering to extremists in Washington. Yet, Republicans continue to prioritize manufactured culture wars over meaningful solutions for families. Now, this harmful bill heads to the Senate. The fight isn’t over. Congress must stop using kids as pawns in their cynical culture war and instead focus on policies that build stronger, more inclusive communities.

To transgender youth: You are not alone. We’ll never stop fighting for your right to thrive as exactly who you are.
