BREAKING NEWS: Orlando City Commission Moves Forward on Domestic Partnership Registry

Orlando Domestic Partnership Registry Final Hearing |
Just moments ago the Orlando City Commission voted unanimously to move forward to vote on the passage of Central Florida's first domestic partnership registry!
While today's vote is a big step in the right direction, the final vote is scheduled for next Monday, December 12th at 2:00pm.
During today's public hearing the chambers were filled with community members dressed in red to show their support. Commissioners Patty Sheehan, Daisy Lynum, and Tony Ortiz all provided heartfelt testimony in support of this critical ordinance.
Just before he called the vote, Mayor Buddy Dyer stated,
"...there are economic reasons to pass this ordinance, but that's not why I'm so supportive of it. I'm supportive of this ordinance because it's simply the right thing to do and it's the right time to do it, and I hope that Orange County will join us."
Equality Florida is proud to have worked hand in hand with Mayor Dyer and advocates from Orlando Anti-Discrimination Ordinance Committee (OADO) to draft what will become Central Florida's first domestic partnership registry.
When passed, the registry will officially recognize LGBT families who live, work, and play in the City of Orland by providing them with a number of vital rights and protections. Additionally, a domestic partnership registry will support our local economy by recruiting and retaining the best talent.
