2016 International Transgender Day of Visibility
Equality Florida's Transgender Inclusion Initiative announces statewide TransAction Florida Speakers Bureau to commemorate the Day of Visibility and to fight transgender discrimination.
The International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual holiday dedicated to celebrating the transgender community and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide.
This year, framed by harmful "transgender bathroom bills" being introduced across the country, to commemorate this day of visibility, Equality Florida is proud to announce the formation of the TransAction Florida Speakers Bureau. The speakers bureau is made up of transgender advocates from across the state who have experienced specialized "Media and Messaging" training from the nationally renowned, Franklin Education Forum, sponsored by the Gill Foundation.
"The transgender community is under attack and we are alarmed that hateful anti-transgender "bathroom bills" are being introduced across the country." According to Gina Duncan, Equality Florida's Transgender Inclusion Director. "Equality Florida is taking immediate steps to address these potential anti-transgender bills by increasing our visibility, and outreach through the TransAction Florida Speakers Bureau. In preparation for potential North Carolina styled discrimination bills aimed at the transgender community, it is vital that we have trained, informed and articulate spokespeople from across Florida available to speak against these flawed and hateful bills. I can't think of a better day to announce this initiative than the "International Transgender Day of Visibility."
Members of the TransAction Florida Speakers Bureau will serve as local and state spokespeople addressing transgender policies and issues. They will also serve as articulate media liaisons for the transgender community advocating for transgender rights and protections and denouncing transgender discrimination.
