Rubio is in and the race is on
Oh, the 2010 election is SO on.
Former Speaker of the Florida House, Marco Rubio (R- Miami), announced today he will run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Mel Martinez. This will make for an interesting race with tough primaries for both parties. It is widely speculated Governor Charlie Crist will also be jumping in. Crist has high popularity ratings and will be a formidable opponent.
During his time in the state legislature, Rubio was a conservative leader and has said he is running because he “wants to be voice of conservative taxpayers”.
On the Democratic side, three South Florida lawmakers have announced they are running. State Senator Dan Gelber, Congressman Kendrick Meek and North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns will duke it out for the Democratic spot.
If Crist runs there will be a shake up in the Cabinet as CFO Alex Sink, the lone Democrat in the Cabinet and long time friend of Equality Florida, is suspected to be running for governor.
AND of course, every State House seat will be up for reelection as well as some of the State Senate seats.
Stay tuned; it’s going to be a great election year.
UPDATE: Crist Expected to Announce Soon
