Gainesville Demands Fair Districts

Yesterday, the Florida legislature held it's public hearing on redistricting in Gainesville. And like with so many other issues, Gainesville showed up to have their voices heard.

Before the hearing residents gathered for the Rally for Fair Districts, organized by Equality Florida as a member of the Fair Districts coalition. Speakers at the rally included the presidents from the Santa Fe and UF College Democrats; Gunnar Paulson, President of the North Central Florida Labor Council; and Rod Smith, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party. (And of course Tom Petty was playing over the sound system, go Gainesville!)

After the rally, the group went into the public hearing on redistricting and demanded legislators stick to the Fair Districts amendments that passed with 63% of the vote last fall. An estimated 400 people were in attendance.
