Millions Become Invisible Today

Anti-Gay Tax Laws Cost Everyone

Demand that they stop treating same-sex couples as invisible. Demand they repeal the Federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Today, millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans will fulfill their responsibility and pay their taxes, despite the fact that the our federal government refuses to recognize their families under the law.

Iowa and Vermont will soon join Massachusetts and Connecticut as states that recognize marriage equality for same sex couples. Other states, along with many counties and municipalities, recognize Civil Unions or Domestic Partnerships. However, all same-sex couples are invisible under federal law. The IRS treats all same-sex couples as complete strangers and that results in increased taxes, fewer benefits and more difficulty taking care of one another and their families.

Take Action
Email your Congressperson today and demand that they stop treating same-sex couples as invisible. Demand they repeal the Federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

The High Cost of Inequality
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) studied the cost associated with legally recognizing the marriages of same-sex couples and it debunks the myth that such recognition would cost the government money. In fact, it would save taxpayer dollars. Same-sex couples are not the only ones paying for marriage discrimination, all taxpayers fund this discrimination which amounts to as much as $1 billion nationwide.
