Meet the Interns: Julia Lozada

Meet the Interns: Julia Lozada
(Field Intern)

1. Tell us a little about yourself…

I am a graduate student at UCF studying Criminal Justice. Right now I am focusing on political work to gain experiences and network so eventually I can become a policy/law maker. I have a deep passion for resolving injustices done to the community. I have always seen activism as one of my favorite hobbies as well as educating my peers and community in order to obtain more change for the sake of progress.

2. Why are you involved with LGBTQ activism?

As a proud queer, non-binary, latinx person I want to help not only the communities that fit in with my identity but also every minority community that that suffers at the hang of the powerful 1%. I have also lost many friends over the years to hate and I no longer want there to be violence inflicted on someone because of who they are.

3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?

Interning for Equality Florida will give me the opportunity to fight for the voiceless and give me the resources and experience I need in order to start making real change in the world. Here I believe I can gain what is necessary in order to be a better leader and organizer for my future career endeavors.

4. What are your plans after you graduate?

After I graduate I plan on either moving to DC and work for a human rights organization up there or stay with Equality Florida and keep fighting for Florida. I would also like to work in law and policy making.
