Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday said she would keep battling for the state's ban on same-sex marriage, saying it is her duty to do so until the issue reaches "finality."

Referring to a recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court not to take up a handful of rulings that overturned similar bans elsewhere, and clearly resisting recent calls to abandon the fight in the wake of that, Bondi said the "good people" at odds because of the controversy deserve to know whether the federal government will sanction gay marriages.

"This isn't legislation. This isn't policy. This is in the Constitution of the state of Florida," Bondi explained to a Republican group in Ocala on why her office would continue the fight on behalf of the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment, which passed in 2008 with 62 percent of the vote.
