Great news! As early as next week the Jacksonville City Council will consider legislation that, if passed, will finally protect the LGBT community from discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations.
Equality Florida and Equality Jax have been working with a coalition of businesses, former elected officials and members of the faith community for over a year to make this change.
The bill would bring Jacksonville in line with the other major municipalities in Florida by prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Jacksonville current protects against discrimination based on race, gender and nationality.
Council member Warren Jones has agreed to be the sponsor of the legislation and is hoping to file it this week to be on the May 8th Council agenda.
Join us right NOW, send a note to the city council urging them to support this critical measure. Forward this to your circle of friends. Post it to your social network. Our elected leaders need to see the groundswell of support for equal rights.
